Post-doctoral research associate positions are available for one-year terms at the U.S. Department of Energy, Westinghouse Savannah River Site (SRS) located in Aiken, South Carolina. Renewal of appointments is possible. SRS is presently evaluating options for the storage and ultimate disposition of aluminum clad spent nuclear fuel. Research associate participants will collaborate with senior engineers to characterize the post irradiation microstructures of the existing fuels and to apply literature models to predict microstructures as a function of temperature for several thousands of years. Candidates will be expected to hold a PhD degree in materials science/engineering.
